The season of The Great Ones opens with a triumphant roar when all the forces of the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance combine for Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem! Verdi’s Messa da Requiem is the most theatrical requiem ever composed—a powerful musical setting of the Roman Catholic funeral mass for four soloists, double choir and orchestra. And in a unique presentation, the full company of Dayton Ballet dancers also takes the stage to communicate this work of genius through the international medium of dance.

In this innovative dramatic realization, the athletic and artistic dancers from Dayton Ballet, along with outstanding Dayton Opera soloists, heighten the meaning and emotional impact of Verdi’s compelling masterpiece. Lighting and graphic projections will convey and intensify the composer’s theatrical elements as the Dayton Philharmonic performs Verdi’s dramatic score.

Few works offer such lavish riches as Verdi's Requiem—the drama of opera, the splendor of passionate symphonic performance, and the sheer beauty of dance. There are too many sublime moments to list them all. The only way to experience this once-in-a-lifetime event is to be in the audience of the world-class Schuster Center for this grand Season Opening Spectacular!
