DAYTON PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA AND SWEDISH ENSEMBLE ARRIVAL MAKE THE ‘70s LIVE AGAIN, WITH THE MUSIC OF ABBA, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 14 AT 8PM AT SCHUSTER CENTER

Dayton Philharmonic Volunteer Association to hold pre-concert fundraiser party in Mathile Theatre at 6pm, featuring contests, an appearance by the Rubi Girls and opportunity to meet Arrival ensemble members

Dayton, Ohio (November 3, 2009) – On Saturday, November 14 at 8 pm in the Schuster Center, DPO Assistant Conductor Patrick Reynolds and the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra will present The Music of ABBA, the second of six Special Events in the DPO 2009-2010 Legends Season.  The concert is sponsored in part by ONE CALL NOW.

With the Broadway smash Mamma Mia! and a movie starring Meryl Streep, ABBA’s music is now hotter than ever. Now, the Swedish ensemble ARRIVAL comes to the DPO stage in a fantastic rock-plus-orchestra show, backed by the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. This authentic 12-member ensemble even includes some of the original ABBA musicians! They’ve toured 20 nations; this will be the group’s Dayton debut. Tickets $15 - $75.  Group rates available. Tickets available at (888) 228-3630 or daytonphilharmonic.com

Prior to the concert, in the Mathile Theatre at the Schuster Center, the Dayton Philharmonic Volunteer Association will hold ABBA Salute to the ‘70s,  a fundraiser party featuring food, beverages,  two raffles, a special appearance by Dayton’s own Rubi Girls, a ‘70s Super Trouper fashion contest, a ‘70s Dancing Queen dance contest, and ‘70s videos. Guests will relive the disco decade with good food and drink, outrageous dance grooves, and fun times with good friends in this fundraiser party that runs from 6 pm and goes right to the start of the ARRIVAL concert at 8 pm. Partygoers will mix and mingle with Swedish musicians ARRIVAL before the concert.

Just $55 covers admission, music, a dance floor, food stations, and a starter cocktail mixed up with (what else?) ABBA-solut. Not to mention some additional creative ways to support the DPO.

Daytonians are encouraged to have a blast while supporting the DPO and its Education Programs! A portion of the ticket price goes toward the DPVA Scholarship Fund.

Cost: $55 per person (concert tickets must be purchased separately).  Party tickets are available online at http://www.ticketcenterstage.com/auto_choose_ga.asp?area=440
or by calling (888) 228-3630.

About ARRIVAL

The music of the former Swedish rock group ABBA is now hotter than ever. More than nostalgia, it’s the combination of wall-of-sound arrangements, infectious lyrics, disco beat, and outrageous outfits. The Swedish group ARRIVAL, an authentic 12-member ensemble, even includes some of the original ABBA musicians! The group, which started out in 1995 as a trademark created by Vicky Zetterberg. is today the largest touring ABBA show in the world, having toured over 20 nations worldwide. Theirs is the only show in the world with exclusive rights to create exact versions of ABBA’s original costumes, the exclusive permission approved by Owe Sandström, who originally created and designed all ABBA costumes. ARRIVAL performs such songs as Dancing Queen, Money, Money, Money, and Waterloo, with more glow than you ever experienced in real life.
