Tom Fetherston

tom_fetherston-0302Tom Fetherston is a violinist and has been with the DPO since 2002.

Tom is a graduate of the Cleveland  Institute of Music, from which he earned both Bachelor and Master of Music degrees.

He began his violin studies at the age of seven and has performed as a soloist and in chamber music groups in both the United States and Europe. His first professional “gig” was as Concertmaster of the Albuquerque Civic Light Opera in 1980.

In addition to his DPO assignment, Tom currently is Concertmaster of the Central Ohio Symphony and an associate musician with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra.

Previously, he was associated with the Trinity Chamber Orchestra, Akron and Canton Symphonies, Cleveland Ballet, Cleveland Opera, the Ohio Chamber Orchestra, Lyric Opera of Cleveland and the Ohio Light Opera. Tom began teaching violin in 1989 and served as Adjunct Instructor of Music in violin at Kenyon College.

He has a passion for  chamber music, particularly the works of modern composers. Although music is his “day job,” Tom does computer consulting as a programmer/analyst for midlevel manufacturers using Enterprise Resource Planning software.

A Columbus area resident, Tom was married to former DPO cellist Mary Davis from 2001 to 2016, and they have one son, who loves to play soccer and futsal (a Brazilian indoor variant of soccer).
