Peter Cain

Peter Cain joined the DPO in 2012 as Bass Clarinet.

He began music lessons on the piano at the age of 5 and began the clarinet in fifth-grade band, although he did not take formal clarinet lessons until ninth grade.

Peter earned a Bachelor of Music from Vanderbilt University in 2007, a Master of Music from the University of Minnesota in 2009, and a Doctor of Musical Arts from UC’s College-Conservatory of Music (CCM), all in Clarinet Performance.

Peter comes from a musical family; his mother and two of his uncles are church organists and choir directors, and his sister is a bassoonist who now works in management with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra.

When not performing with the DPO, Peter is a clarinet professor at Lee University in Tennessee and Principal Clarinet with the Symphony of the Mountains in Kingsport, TN.

He also performed one year with the Knoxville Symphony as Acting Principal Clarinet.

Peter’s hobbies include running, cooking and hiking.
