Janet George

Janet George has been a member of the Philharmonic since 1982, starting in the Second Violin section, but for the last 30 years as a member of the First Violin section.

She graduated from the University of Kansas  with a degree in Music Education and a violin major.

When Janet’s husband, Warren, was hired as a member of the music faculty at the University of Texas at Austin, she taught junior and senior high orchestra and they both played in the Austin Symphony.

After six years, Warren joined the faculty at Penn State University, and Janet taught privately and played in the Nittany Valley Symphony. Four years later, Warren was hired as Chair of Music Education at UC’s College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) and subsequently became Associate Dean.

Their long stay in the Cincinnati area allowed Janet to begin freelancing and playing with the Cincinnati Ballet, Chamber and Opera Orchestras. She also joined the DPO and in 1988 returned to teaching elementary, middle and high school orchestras in the Northwest Local School District.

She retired from teaching after 25 years in three states and then taught second grade in the DPO’s Spark Program for nine years. Janet and Warren have three adult sons and live in the Symmes Township area of Cincinnati.

Janet’s hobbies include gardening, book club and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events.
