Gerald "Jerry" Noble


Gerald "Jerry" Noble has been a member of the DPO’s percussion section since 2005.

He is a graduate of Cleveland State University, where he studied with Tom Freer of the Cleveland Orchestra.

He received a  Performance Diploma from Indiana University, where he studied with Gerald Carlyss, former Principal Timpani of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Jerry then earned a Master of Music from UC’s College-Conservatory of Music.

He started music lessons in the second grade and began playing percussion at age 12. When Jerry joined the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra, his focus became instrumental studies.

Jerry appears regularly as an extra/substitute percussionist with the Cincinnati Symphony, Pops and Chamber orchestras, with Fort Wayne Philharmonic and Concert:Nova, and also as guest assistant or principal timpanist with the CSO, Indianapolis, Alabama, West Virginia, and New Mexico Symphony Orchestras, among others.

Jerry was a member of the USAF Band of Flight for several years. His day job is as Director of Percussion Studies at Wright State University, but he also presents clinics and performances at other universities and Days of Percussion.

Jerry is married to Ashley Noble, an oboist, and they are parents of two daughters and a son.
