Kara Camfield

Assistant Principal Violin

muso_kara_camfield_0601Kara Camfield is the Assistant Principal Second Violin of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra and has been with the Philharmonic since 2006.

She is also the first violinist for the Philharmonic's educational string quartet.

Kara earned a Masters of Music degree from the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati (OH) and a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Minot State University (ND).

Her principal teachers were Kurt Sassmannshaus and Dr. Jon Rumney. During her time at CCM she traveled twice to Italy for the five-week Opera Theatre & Music Festival of Lucca.

Kara has participated in masterclasses instructed by William Preucil, Stephen Rose, Elizabeth Adkins, the Ying Quartet, and Colorado String Quartet.

Kara also has a passion for teaching. In addition to a large studio of private students, she is the Adjunct Professor of Violin at the University of Dayton.

She also plays in the Aviatori Piano Trio, a UD faculty ensemble. Kara is a SPARK teaching artist for the DPO and is privileged to be the conductor of the Dayton Philharmonic Junior Strings.
